I've been stockpiling material for this blog for a while now. Maybe because other stuff has felt more time-sensitive, I haven't posted much on comics — but if I were a tag cloud that would probably be the biggest label on me.
For nearly 40 years, Dell published a series called March of Comics. Well, I'm going to do my best to make this month a "March of comics" on the blog. Almost every day should bring a review; anecdotes from my time spent reading comics, studying the art form, and working in the industry; or at least a gallery of favorite covers. [Note: Some of these posts have been moved to my separate, comics-oriented blog, Adventures in Comicology.]
Since yesterday's debut installment of Empaneled — what I hope will be a series of essays and anecdotes on my relationship with comics as a fan, amateur creator, and professional journalist — is focused on DC and Marvel, I thought I'd run the cover of a Harvey one-shot today. Now that spring training is under way and my Phillies are looking to repeat a World Series win, it's especially apt, and it's another cover that I hadn't seen for decades before tracking it down via The Grand Comics Database. I'd love to hear what comics from your own past you've rediscovered, and how.
